Karl Mata Hipol b.Philippines immigrated to Canada in 2015. Hipol's practice is primarily grounded in drawing and painting. Influenced by his narrative, Hipol combines his artistic and architectural background to create his gestural, perspectival abstract blueprint paintings. Currently, Hipol is taking a bachelor's in fine arts, majoring in Visual Art, and minoring in Curatorial Practice at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. He recently curated an exhibition at the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art titled "Beyond the Horizon."
Hipol has previously exhibited at the Seymour Art Gallery, 2021 Discovery exhibition and won an Honourable mention; The Reach Gallery Museum, Art on Demand 6.4 exhibition (2021); Federation of Canadian Artist Gallery and won an Honorable mention award at the "2020 Abstracted Exhibition" and Second place at the "2019 Concept" Exhibition. The artist's paintings have been placed in local Canadian and international collections in the Philippines, Hong Kong, Switzerland, and Ireland.
